Lady Vikes are STATE CHAMPS

The Princeton Lady Vikings defeated North Canton Hoover 61-55 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I State Championship in front of 4,833 fans on Saturday, March 15 at Value City Arena. The Lady Vikings finished the season winning 16 consecutive games to finish 28-2 on the season. The win marks the second State Championship for the girls' program.
Princeton jumped out in front 19-13 after the first quarter of play, and led 31-24 at the half. The defense was sensational with 5 blocked shots and limited the Hoover Vikings to 32 percent shooting.
Senior Kelsey Mitchell scored 18 of her game-high 30 points to lead the offense. Mitchell finished her high school career with 2,051 points. Mitchell knocked down 15 free throws, setting
Carlie Pogue had another strong game for the Vikings, finishing with 17 points and tieing the individual Division I state final record with 14 rebounds. Pogue wrapped up her State performance averaging 17.5 ppg, 12.5 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks.
Canton Hoover shot the ball well in the second half (44.0 percent), but Princeton would not allow the opposition to get within 4 points.
Princeton scored 34 points in the paint, and 16 off turnovers.
The Lady Vikes converted 9-10 free throws in the second half to finish the game 16-18 from the line.
