Lady Vikes bounce back, sink Firebirds 64-52

The top ranked girls' basketball team bounced back from Monday night's loss to defeat the #3 Lakota West Firebirds 64-52 on Wednesday, December 11 at Princeton High School. Princeton has won 6 of the last 7 matchups and improved to 4-1 on the regular season.
The Vikings struggled in the first quarter and trailed the Firebirds 14-9 before Princeton heated up for 22 second quarter points. Chelsea Mitchell was sharp shooting the basketball. She connected on 4 three pointers to lead the Vikings to a 31-22 lead at the break.
Princeton's offense kept the foot on the gas by scoring 12 unaswered points to begin the third quarter. Kelsey Mitchell scored 10 of her game-high 24 points in the third. She added 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals.
Chelsea Mitchell knocked down her fifth three pointer of the night to help Princeton build a 25 point advantage early in the second half. C. Mitchell finished the night with 15 points.
Also reaching double figures was Carlie Pogue, who finished with 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds. After an impressive 15-rebound performance on Monday night, Jasmyn Hardin produced another solid game in the paint. Hardin finished with 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Jada Ballew chipped in with 4 points and 3 rebounds, and Corneisha Henderson added a big three pointer late in the second quarter.
Princeton shot 41 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from behind the arc. The Vikings capitalized on their free-throws, knocking down 14-17 in the game.
Lakota West was led by Lauren Cannatelli's 17 points.
Princeton (4-1, 2-0) returns to action Saturday, December 14 against Fairfield. The tip-off is scheduled to start at 2:00pm at Princeton High School.
