Boys Water Polo goes 2-1 at Milford Invite
August 27, 2013Princeton High School
The Princeton boys' water polo team went 2-1 in the Milford Invitational August 24-25 at Milford High School.
The Vikings picked up their first win of the season against GlenOak in a 21-14 decision. The starters for Princeton build a strong lead against the aggressive defense by the Golden Eagles, providing valuable time for the subs in a total team effort win.
In game two, Princeton defeated Milford 21-12. Sophomore Riley Hinkley scored 6 goals on 7 shots, and senior Dustin Dykes finished with 5 goals on 8 shots. Led by senior DJ Svensson, the Vikings showcased excellent defense. Svensson finished the game with 8 defensive stops.
The Vikings were unable to go a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend as they lost to a very tough St. Xavier Bombers' team. Junior goalie, Willie Cheney, set a new record with 21 blocks under head coach Chad Packer's 10 years with Princeton. Princeton kept the game close throughout the first half, but the Bombers would extend the lead in the fourth quarter, capitalizing on miscues by the Vikings. Princeton was led by Jake Mazzone and Riley Hinkley who each scored three goals a piece.
Princeton (2-4) will compete in the Mason Invitational August 30-31.
