Powell scores twice, Girls Soccer wins opener
August 22, 2013Princeton High School
The Princeton girls' soccer team opened up their regular season schedule with a 3-2 victory over the Talawanda Braves on Wednesday, August 21 at Viking Stadium.
Senior Sierra Powell eluded Braves' defense to give Princeton an early 1-0 advantage in the first half. Powell, who led the Vikings with 9 goals last season, would find the back of the net for her second goal of the game.
Talawanda would cut the deficit in half before halftime.
Senior Skyler Wilson fired a shot past the goalie with under 20:00 remaining in the second half to extend the lead, 3-1.
The Braves would put together a nice attack in the closing minutes, but the Vikings defense held strong to secure Coach Rich Ledford's first win as Princeton's girls soccer coach.
Princeton (1-0) returns to action on Thursday, August 22 against Kings at Viking Stadium at 7:00pm.
