February 28, 2013Princeton High School
The Princeton boys' basketball team suffered a 65-63 loss to Turpin in the Sectional semi-finals on Wednesday, February 27 at Hamilton High School. The Vikings finish the regular season with a 13-11 record.
Falling 83-75 in their first meeting during the season, both teams were prepared for a very physical and hard fought game for thirty-two minutes. The Spartans jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never trailed. Junior Zach McCormick scored 30 of his 42 points in the first half to give the Spartans a 37-30 lead.
Princeton made some excellent adjustments defensively and rallied back to tie the game at 48-48 with 5:32 remaining in the game. Both teams would counter scoring possessions down the stretch, but Princeton was foreced to foul with 9.8 seconds. Turpin looked to extend the lead to four points, but could not capitalize at the free throw line. The missed opportunity gave the Vikings a chance to tie or win the game, but a critical stop by the Spartans' defense sealed the win.
The Vikings were led by junior Ryan Bricking with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Senior Darius Hilson scored 18 points, and Deiontay Walters added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the loss. Dorian Jordan finished with 6 points and 9 assists, and Elijah Abrams chipped in with 2 points.
Princeton finished the game shooting 48 percent from the floor, and showed great efforts throughout the game.
