The Princeton wrestling team traveled to Holt, Michigan to participate in the Holt Invitational over the extended weekend. The Vikings placed 7th out of 15 teams in the pool style tournament that featured many power house programs around the area.
AJ Kowal continued his dominance over the weekend. Seeded fifth to begin the tournament, Kowal pinned his first four opponents to advance to the finals. Already defeating the #1 seed, Kowal matched up against the #2 seed, who is a two time state placer. Kowal would pick up his 27th win of the season, defeating his opponent 4-2 in the finals.
Kowal currently has a 27-4 record with 20 pins.
Due to many injuries, the Vikings had just ten athletes compete. Remi Velasquez jumped up in weight class, competing at 113. Velasquez placed fifth over the weekend, finishing with a 3-1 record.
Abbdulaya Guisse made his first varsity start, recording his first pin. Competing at 126, Brandon Selmon picked up two pins in his first couple of matches, and one tech fall. Selmon finished with a 3-1 record, placing fifth.
The Vikings picked up a third place finish at 132 as Anthony Alexander would finish 3-1. In the 138 weight class, Aaron Turner posted a 2-2 record to finish sixth place overall. Brad Bennett placed 7th at 152.
Princeton will compete at Harrison High School against Colerain in the first round of the State Duals on Wednesday, January 23. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.
