November 27, 2012Princeton High School
The Princeton Lady Vikings opened up the 2012-13 season with a 78-40 victory over Mercy on Saturday, November 24 at Cincinnati State.
The Lady Vikes were led by junior Kelsey Mitchell, who dropped a career high 38 points on 13-25 shooting. The 38 point performance also sets a new school record for most points in a single game, which was previously owned by Tanya Upthegrove (1987), Donnieta Reese (1988), and Kelsey Mitchell (last season) at 33 points.
Princeton jumped out early, and never looked back. The Lady Vikes scored 35 second quarter points to take a 45-11 lead at half.
Junior Quierra Drake provided a great lift off the bench, reaching double figures with 11 points. Freshman point guard, Markayla Sherman scored 9 points and 4 steals.
Jasmyn Hardin, Lejessica Olverson, and Carlie Pogue each recorded 8 rebounds in the win.
As a team, Princeton shot 29-61 (47.5%) from the floor, and 17-27 (63%) from the charity stripe. The aggressive defense forced 22 turnovers, and recorded 16 steals.
Princeton (1-0) will travel to Sycamore on Thursday, November 29.
