Home » Football NewsVikes close out home schedule with lossOctober 20, 2012 Princeton High SchoolThe Princeton Vikings' football team concluded their home schedule with a 28-17 loss against the Mason Comets on Friday, October 19. The loss drops the Vikings to 1-8 on the season, and 1-5 in the Greater Miami Conference. The Comets got on the board force, as Mason converted on 4th down & less than a yard inside the Vikings 3 yard line. Comets' running back Darryl Johnson would find a hole in the middle, giving Mason a 7-0 lead. The Vikings would respond on the very next play. Senior Darrell Davis would take the kick 85 yards for a touchdown. Mason would then add another touchdown on their next possession, as Johnson would escape the Viking defense for his second score. Princeton would put together a very nice drive of their own on the next possession. After a personal foul by the Comets' defense, Princeton saw themselves inside the 5 yard line with four chances to score. It would not take Gilbert long to find the endzone on a quarterback keeper. With the score knotted at 14 a piece, Mason's Corey Quallen would return the sky kick 75 yards to put the Comets in excellent field possession before the half. Johnson would punch in for another touchdown, his third of the game. Mason would add another touchdown before half, giving the Comets a 28-14 lead at the half. In the second half, scoring was limited for both teams. Jake Bent would connect for a 28 FG, cutting the lead to 28-17. Senior Darion Perkins would block the Mason punt, putting the Vikings inside Comets' 20 yard line. However, a mishandle by the Vikings would give the ball right back. In the final minutes of the game, Princeton's hurry up offense would put them inside the Comets' 30 yard line. Mason's defense would come up big with a sack on third down. No timeouts, Princeton's would come up short on 4th down to end the game. Princeton will travel to Middletown next Friday to finish the regular season.
