VANCEBORO - When Clay Jordan took over the West Craven football program in 1978, Kevin Yost wasn't even a twinkle in his father's eye.
Thirty-one years later, Yost is Jordan's successor.
West Craven school officials announced the hiring of Yost as head football coach on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Ohio native is the first to follow Jordan, the longtime leader of the Eagles.
"This is a dream come true for me," Yost said of landing his first varsity head coaching job. "I'm honored for the opportunity to follow Coach Jordan, who is a coaching hero and friend."
