SANFORD - Mallard Creek now holds the top spot of the Carolina Preps/NCPrepReport.com Top-25 Media Poll after defeating Butler 28-20 Friday evening. This is Week 1 of the poll. The Mavericks received all 20 first-place votes in the poll. Butler, winners of the past two 4-AA state championships, dropped from the top spot in the preseason rankings to third. Richmond County moves up to second place in the rankings. Rounding out the top five are Scotland County at No. 4 and Greensboro Page at No. 5. This poll will be released each Monday evening throughout the regular season.
