RONDO
- North Wilkes boys basketball coach Tommy Johnson said he was dismissed by North Wilkes High School principal Helen Johnson in a meeting on Wednesday morning.

Tommy Johnson, who has compiled an overall record of 422-202 in 24 seasons as a coach, said no reason was given to him for the decision during the meeting.

"Principal Helen Johnson called me in for a meeting and when I came to her office, (Wilkes County Schools superintendent) Dr. (Stephen) Laws was also there and she told me that I would not be retained as the boys basketball coach at North Wilkes next year," Johnson said.

"I asked her, 'Why?' and she looked at me and told me that, 'I don't have to give you a reason because coaching is a year-to-year appointment' and at that time, I was told by the superintendent I'd be moved to an elementary school and that I had until Friday to remove my belongings from the school.
