CHAPEL HILL - The N.C. High School Athletic Association uses Average Daily Membership (ADM) numbers to determine which schools will go to the small and large subdivisions in the football playoffs. This year, however, the ADM numbers may come in late. Individual school systems report their ADM numbers for each of their schools to the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. Once DPI gets the numbers together the NCHSAA obtains them and makes some changes.
In order for the ADM numbers to be used for football playoffs, the NCHSAA must add parochial schools, like Cardinal Gibbons, as well as federal schools, such as Cherokee. These schools do not report ADM numbers to DPI.
