GARNER - Before he won Season 10 of American Idol last spring, Scotty McCreery was a junior varsity high school baseball pitcher. On Saturday, he was on the mound in his first varsity appearance as a senior relief pitcher for Garner High School.
American Idol winner Scotty McCreery threw an inning of hitless relief in his varsity high school baseball debut at Garner.
With Garner's Trojans trailing Fuquay-Varina 8-5, the right-handed McCreery came in relief and worked a scoreless seventh inning. Fuquay held on to win the game 8-7.
He struck out his first batter on three curveballs, struck out his second batter, who then reached base due to a dropped third strike and ended the inning on a groundout.
