Great American Football Classic

The second game of the Great American Football Classis will be the Farmington Black Knights taking on the Sikeston Bulldogs at 1:45PM. The two have been district rivals for the past four years with Farmington winning last year’s battle 55-21 to take the district crown away from Sikeston. The Knights have won 6 of the last 8 meetings between the two.

The Farmington Black Knights finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 12-2 winning the Class 4 District 1 championship but coming up just one win shy of the Class 4 state championship game. The Knights have their work cut out for them this season as they have to reload an offense that features its third starting quarterback in as many seasons with junior Justin Boehm assuming the helm this season.  He will have seniors Jared Dunlap and Evan Dunivan lining up at wide receiver, and junior Colten Coulter will be the Knights feature running back in the backfield.

Sikeston has been only one win shy of playing in the Class 4 state championship games held annually at the Edward Jones Dome twice in the past 3 seasons. The Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 13-1 in 2009 and 2010 earning them the title of SEMO Conference North and Class 4 District 1 champions. The Bulldogs finished 8-3 last season, sending them to the playoffs for a third consecutive year. 2011 marked the first time Sikeston had lost more than one game in a season since 2008. The Bulldogs will be led by senior quarterback Kyland Gross. Gross was an all-purpose player on last year’s squad, lining up at wide receiver, running back and pretty much wherever the Bulldogs needed him. He rushed for 653 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. The backfield will have 5 players all seeking time at the running back position led by juniors Reese Porter and Clay Porter. Lining up at wide receiver will be seniors Markeith Bratcher, Jacob Stinnett, Audrea Golden and Spenser Clark. The Bulldog defense will return the leading tackler from last season in senior Blake Flannigan. Gross will also play defensive back on top of his quarterback duties. He was an all-conference defensive back last season.
