1016sports is back for 2014-15!
August 1, 2014By Brad Laux of 1016sports
Friday, Aug. 1 -- It’s here! Today is the first official day of KHSAA competition (in addition to the first day of full-contact football practice), with boys’ and girls’ golf starting off a stretch of approximately 323 days of potential sporting events taking place.
1016sports will be out there to cover five games a week on average and, as always, attempt to see all 239 team sport teams among the 34 high schools in the KHSAA’s 10th and 16th Regions (plus Wolfe County) play at least once; while also catching as many cross country, track & field, tennis and golf competitions as possible; with the goal of watching up to 240 games in 2014-15. That total also will include Media Days, press conferences and college signings, post-season banquets and tournament draws, preseason events and as many post-season tournaments (including all-star games and even some summer events), as possible. This year, I plan to broaden my coverage to include some swimming, bowling, archery, wrestling and cheerleading competitions.
Of course, all of this is operating under the assumption that the four most pieces of technology that are critical to 1016sports (my car, camera, computer and back-up hard drive) remain in working order. Hopefully, my health will also hold up and that there won’t be any family emergencies or other things that need my immediate attention creeping into the mix.
“God willing and the Creek don’t rise”, I’ll be at the year’s first event through its final one, all the while embodying the two phrases that characterize my life and work: “Chasing my own tail” and “Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole”.
So be sure to follow the action with videos, photos, stories, results and statistics, pre-game notes, polls, team rankings, pre-season previews, podcasts, Players of the Week, Players to Watch and post-season individual awards, and maybe even other features, at iHigh.com/1016sports. As former colleague the late Denver Brown used to say, “See you at the game!”
