Thursday, Apr. 17 -- Peyton Brown scored a pair of runs, the second with one out in the top of the sixth inning to help No. 9 West Carter (10-2) defeat host and No. 10 Lewis County (8-5) 3-2. The Comets only mustered four hits on the day off Lion pitchers Jordan Davis and Devon Duncan, but capitalized off four errors that led to two of their three runs.
Brown led off the game with a single to center field and then advanced to third after a stolen base and a passed ball on the same play. He eventually scored on Kaden Rose’s double to left-center field.
Lewis County countered with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame after Jordan McCann drew a two-out walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on Jordan Doyle’s single to center field.
The Comets moved ahead after leadoff batter J.T. Johnson reached base on an error in the fourth. Two more errors allowed him to ultimately score.
Lewis County again answered in the bottom of the fifth. Austin Evans and Jordan Davis each singled to open the inning and after a walk to Wade Adams loaded the bases, McCann’s fielder’s choice drove in Evans for the tying score.
Both teams changed pitchers to start the sixth. Brown again led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a stolen base. He eventually scored on an error.
Lewis County put a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, but could not tie the score. Relief pitcher Richard McGlone then retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
