Thursday, Aug. 22 -- After back-to-back runner-up finishes, host Morgan County broke through to win its first All "A" girls' golf title with a 196 at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in West Liberty. Fairview finished as the runner-up at 217. Lady Eagle senior Amber Greene carded a nine-hole 41 to earn her first medalist honors.
Markwell placed 38th at last year's state All "A" competiion at the Lincoln Homestead Golf Course and was 75th at Paducah's Silos Country Club in 2011. Greene and Hall also will be making a repeat state trip after they both finished in a three-way tie for 64th in 2011. That year, Hall became the first Lady Cat golfer in school history to participate in the state All "A" Tournament. Greene also advanced to the 2010 state championships, where she finished in a tie for 79th.
Pre-tournament notes: The 16th Region All "A" girls' golf tournament will run from 4:30-7 p.m. at Morgan County's par-35, 2117-yard Pleasant Valley Golf Course.
