3 YEARS AGO (2007): Oregon-Davis, Northwestern, Plymouth, East Chicago

April 15, 2010
100 Years in 100 Days

CLASS A: OREGON-DAVIS 63, BARR-REEVE 52
Class A top-ranked Oregon-Davis won its first state championship in boys basketball beating Barr-Reeve, 63-52, at Conseco Fieldhouse and capping off a 27-1 season. Going from 46 straight losses in the early part of the decade, to a state title, Oregon-Davis' fifth year Head Coach Travis Hannah was credited with turning around the program. Oregon-Davis returned all five starters from the 2006 squad that fell a game short in the semi-state.

CLASS 2A: NORTHWESTERN 78, WINCHESTER 74
In only the third double-overtime championship game in state finals history, the Northwestern Tigers defeated the Winchester Golden Eagles, 78-74, to capture the 2A boys basketball title. The Tigers overcame a 13-point deficit, four starters fouling out and a buzzer beater at the end of regulation to capture the first state championship in any sport for the school. Coached by Jim Gish, Northwestern finished the season at 25-2  and won their final 15 contests.

CLASS 3A: PLYMOUTH 72, EVANSVILLE BOSSE 61
The Plymouth Pilgrims won their second state championship in boys basketball beating Evansville Bosse, 72-61, and capping off a 25-2 season for 34th year Head Coach Jack Edison. Edison had to wait 25 years to return Plymouth to championship glory, the longest stretch between titles for a coach in state finals history. Plymouth and Edison won their first title in 1982. Plymouth returned four players from its 2005 state finals squad that finished as runners-up to Washington, 74-72.

CLASS 4A: EAST CHICAGO 87, NORTH CENTRAL 83

The East Chicago Cardinals used a balanced attack and defeated the North Central Panthers, 87-83, to capture the Class 4A basketball state championship. This was the first East Chicago team to win the state title since 1971 when an undefeated East Chicago Washington team defeated Elkhart 70-60. Second year East Chicago coach Pete Trgovich was a player on that 29-0 squad, becoming just the fourth individual to win a state championship as a player and a coach.
