71 YEARS AGO (1939): Frankfort 36, Franklin 22

March 19, 2010
100 Years in 100 Days

These two teams were no strangers to being in the state championship game having a combined seven state titles. This is the fourth title won by Frankfort in a span of 14 years (1925-1939).  All four titles were accomplished under Coach Everett Case.  After coaching for Frankfort he enlisted into the army from 1941-1946.  He started his new career as a coach at NC State from 1946-1964.  He was inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame 1962, Indiana Hall of Fame 1968, and North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame 1964.  NC State's main athletic office and Frankfort's Case Arena are both named after Coach Case.

1939 was also the year Indiana gave its first Mr. Basketball award, and that was granted to Franklin's George Crowe.
